Set Cart Mode
PUT/api/portal/cart/mode
Switch the shared cart between "Order now — ships from stock" (stock) and "Pre-order" (preorder). The lines are kept and the cart is re-priced.
This endpoint currently requires session authentication; Personal Access Token scope support is in progress.
mode (string, required): stock or preorder.
In pre-order mode each of the account's catalogs that has a PRE-ORDER ladder (preorder_discount_tiers_json, see Admin → Update Catalog) prices its own lines on it, laid over its in-stock ladder (so a pre-order is never priced worse than ordering now); the threshold still counts only that catalog's lines. catalog_discounts[].preorder marks those. Special-order items that need sourcing can be checked out ONLY in pre-order mode: on a stock cart their lines carry the blocking warning special_order_preorder_only. Checkout in pre-order mode creates the sales order flagged as a pre-order (portal_preorder, the ship window, a "Pre-order" tag).
422 {"reason": "preorder_unavailable"} when no catalog of the account has pre-order pricing.

Response Headers
Unauthenticated — the bearer token is missing, revoked, expired, or malformed. Never retry automatically; fix the credential. See the Errors guide.
Forbidden — the token lacks a required scope, the endpoint is not available to API tokens, or the user behind the token lacks the permission. A human must adjust the token scopes or user permissions; do not retry.
Validation failed — the body is a field → messages map (Laravel shape) or the platform envelope with a stable machine-readable code. Fix the payload and resubmit.
Rate limited — platform limit is 1,000 requests/min; individual tokens may carry lower limits. Honor the Retry-After header before retrying. See the Rate Limits guide.
